Story Behind This Mural

Did you know that only about 1 in 1,000 baby sea turtles will make it to adulthood?

They are a source of food for crabs, birds, and other marine animals. However, the biggest threats to sea turtles are human-related. From oil spills and habitat loss to entanglement in marine debris and human consumption, sea turtles live a precarious life.

Through her mural, Paola sheds light on the fact that when a single female turtle is killed, much more is at stake than that one animal’s life. Using X-ray technique, she hopes to convey that the lives of unborn turtles should be cherished just as much as we value our own.
