Artist Statement
My mural is about consumerism’s impact on an island and the little care we take with regard to driving speeds. On Cozumel, large numbers of birds, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and crustaceans are run over on a daily basis. We must create a program to reduce and prevent roadkill, as well as place speed bumps, traffic signs, and create wildlife corridors on our roads. Awareness campaigns and enforcement are fundamental.
