Story Behind This Mural

Artist Statement

"This piece shows a character stretching out but unable to reach the whale in a bottle. The mural is symbolic of how disconnected humans are from the oceans and the environments we depend on for survival. The amount of trash that is polluting the oceans is frightening, and is one of the biggest environmental disasters of our lifetime. It’s estimated that by 2050, only 30 years in the future, there will be more plastic in the sea than fish. We have to change our consumption habits now and be aware of our daily impact or it will be too late for humanity. It all starts with you. Vote with your dollar and be the change you want to see in the world. If you address these problems now in our everyday lives, we might just be able to meet the challenge of saving the planet, and our oceans, as we know them"
