Artist Statement

I painted the Kōkako,' a New Zealand native bird that is in danger of extinction. Kokako populations are slowly increasing thanks to recent research by the Department of Conservation, which has found a way to improve its genetic diversity by sneakily swapping eggs between different families of Kokako. I think this attitude of using science, knowledge, and technology is key to ensuring a viable future for these magnificent creatures.
