Story Behind This Mural
Artist Statement
Plastics are the most common form of marine debris. Once in the water, plastic debris never fully biodegrades. Fish, seabirds, sea turtles, and marine mammals can become entangled in or ingest plastic debris, causing suffocation, starvation, and drowning. Plastic contamination will soon be catastrophic for human health.
The two different lenses show you two different outcomes:
🔴 The world where humans take oceans for granted. Plastic pollution and acidification is only getting worse, and eventually, sea life comes to an end.
🔵 The world where plastic is reduced and recycling is done properly. No more single-use plastics. The oceans are clean again, and pH levels are back to normal. Sea life is thriving.
