Artist Statement
For my mural, which I titled "AROHA TE MOANA" (love the ocean), I chose to depict the universally recognized character Moana, who connected and protected the wairua (spirit) of the ocean. I placed her in a sea of Maori koru with "love the ocean" spelled out in seven different languages.
