Letanía

Artist Statement

I use the golden line as a symbol for overfishing and the damage it causes. Thus, it pierces the hand, the fish, and the heart of the figure, seeking to make the viewer aware of the immeasurable harm it brings to your environment, yourself, and what you love. I hope that the mural’s message will be replicated, that it generates an echo, like its title, “Litany”.

If you do eat seafood (marine life), you can be a responsible consumer by:

• Choosing to eat species that are lower on the food chain. Think sardines over tuna.
• Refer to consumer guides such as Seafood Watch and only eat species that are considered sustainable.
• Look out for catch harvested using non-commercial, more sustainable fishing methods such as spearfishing and pole-and-line.
