Story Behind This Mural
Artist Statement
The work focuses on coral bleaching, a negative environmental condition brought on by human stressors such as pollution, rising sea temperature, and overfishing. This threat affects the fragile ecosystems of tropical seas, particularly the Great Barrier Reef. As with most of our works, the wolves are the protagonists, the counterparts for human nature. We have shown them floating underwater among the reefs, in reality, both our aesthetic and the coral share a vibrant palette but the bleaching is stripping the color from the bottom up, creeping over the surrounding fauna and even the wolves themselves. The use of color, or rather lack thereof, points to the connectedness which is central to our work. We hope our work will raise awareness of the fact that this issue is not localized to the reef or even just the seas. The disturbance of this fragile balance could spell the collapse of the reef structure, resulting in a significant impact on our economic and political climate. Nature is not something we should have to choose to protect. If we lose our biodiversity, we lose life.The Focus
